Automated driveway gate installation and gate automation services in Sonoma and Marin County.
Based in Santa Rosa, YG Fence Co. designs custom gates, fabricates them in their shop, and integrates commercial-grade motors for reliable long-term operation. New gate systems or retrofit automation for existing gates.
It's raining. You pull up to your driveway. Do you really want to get out, fumble with the latch, push the gate open while rain soaks through your jacket, get back in the car, pull through, get back out to close it?
Push-button access eliminates that entire frustration. Your gate opens as you approach, closes automatically behind you, and operates flawlessly for 15-20 years with commercial-grade equipment. Control from your car, your phone, or give temporary codes to contractors and guests.
We're not just gate motor installers—we design and fabricate the gates themselves. That means gates engineered for automation from day one, not residential gates retrofitted with motors that fail in three years. The Guizar family handles complete systems: gate design, fabrication, motor selection, installation, and programming.
Electric motor opens/closes your gate with remote control
Automatic closing (gate closes itself after opening)
Safety sensors prevent closing on vehicles or people
Multiple access methods (remotes, keypads, smartphone)
Integrated with custom gate design and fabrication
We're not just installers—we design, fabricate, and automate. Here's what's included in our gate automation systems:
We design and fabricate your driveway gates in our shop to match your property's aesthetic. Custom metal gates in any size, style, or material—built specifically for automation.
Single or double swing gates
Sliding gates (for narrow driveways or slopes)
Custom widths (10-20+ feet)
Match existing fencing
Any style: modern horizontal slat, traditional, ornamental
Why This Matters:
Gates designed for automation from the start are stronger, more reliable, and last longer than gates retrofitted with motors.
Professional-grade gate operators engineered for residential and commercial applications. We select motors based on your gate's weight, usage frequency, and site conditions.
Swing gate operators: Articulated arm or underground motors
Sliding gate operators: Chain-drive or rack-and-pinion systems
Solar-powered options: For properties without nearby electrical access
Why This Matters:
Cheap motors fail within 2-3 years. Commercial-grade operators last 15-20+ years with minimal maintenance.

Safety systems that prevent gate closing on vehicles, people, or pets. Required by California code for automated gates.
Photoelectric safety eyes (detect obstructions)
Pressure-sensitive edge sensors
Emergency manual release
Automatic reverse on obstruction
Battery backup (gate operates during power outages)
Why This Matters:
Safety isn't optional—it's legally required and protects your family, guests, and property.
Install motors, run electrical, program all components, and test the complete system. Our team handles permitting, trenching for electrical, and code-compliant installation.
Motor installation and electrical wiring
Control board and remote programming
Safety sensor setup and testing
Complete operational walk-through
Why This Matters:
The same family that fabricates your gate installs the automation—no subcontractors, no miscommunication.

For automating an existing gate, the actual installation typically takes 1 to 2 days. However, the complete process from consultation to operational gate takes 3 to 4 weeks, which includes the site assessment (week 1), ordering motors and equipment (1-2 weeks lead time), and installation and programming (1-2 days). For new gate systems that include custom fabrication, the complete timeline is 7 to 10 weeks: design and approval (1-2 weeks), custom gate fabrication (3-4 weeks), motor delivery (runs concurrent with fabrication), and installation (1-2 days). We can sometimes expedite for urgent situations.
Possibly, but not all gates are good candidates for automation. We need to assess your gate's weight, structural condition, balance, and hinge quality. Gates designed for manual operation are often too light or poorly balanced for motors. We'll give you an honest assessment: if your gate can be automated with minor reinforcement, we'll do it. If automation would be unreliable or require extensive reinforcement that costs nearly as much as a new gate, we'll recommend replacement. Our goal is a system that works reliably for 15 to 20 years, not a marginal solution that fails in 2 years.
We can handle gates of any size. For very heavy gates (over 1,000 pounds) or extra-wide openings (over 20 feet), we simply specify commercial-grade operators designed for that application. Heavy-duty swing gate operators can handle gates up to 2,000 pounds. Sliding gate operators can handle gates 40+ feet wide. There's always a motor solution for your gate—it's just a matter of selecting the right equipment and budget.
Only if you add battery backup. Standard gate operators require electricity and won't function during power outages without backup power. We offer two solutions: battery backup systems (4 to 6 hours of operation, enough for multiple open/close cycles during typical outages) cost $400 to $600, or solar-powered systems (completely independent of electrical grid) cost $1,500 to $2,500. Most clients in rural Sonoma County areas with frequent outages opt for battery backup. For properties without nearby electrical access, solar is often more cost-effective than trenching 200+ feet of electrical.
Minimal but important. Every 6 months, lubricate hinges and moving parts with white lithium grease. Annually, check and tighten all bolts and connections, inspect safety sensors for alignment, and test the manual release.
Every 2 to 3 years, have a professional inspect the motor, adjust chain or track tension (sliding gates), and verify safety sensors. If you maintain it properly, commercial-grade gate operators last 15 to 20 years before needing replacement. Battery backup systems need battery replacement every 3 to 5 years (similar to car batteries).
Let's discuss your gate project. We'll assess your property, explain your options (new gate vs automate existing), and design a system that works flawlessly for decades. Free assessment, honest recommendations.
